About the Speaker

Dr. Kumarpal Desai is an acclaimed author, journalist, academic, and Jain scholar, known for his vast contributions to literature, education, and Indian culture. Recipient of the Padma Shri (2004) and Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak (2015), he has authored over 150 books across genres, including biography, criticism, religion, and children’s literature. A prominent journalist for over five decades, his long-running column Int ane Imarat is among the most respected in Gujarati media. He has written extensively on Jain philosophy, with over 80 books and he has united global Jain communities through the Institute of Jainology and interfaith initiatives. A former professor and dean at Gujarat University, he has mentored over 22 Ph.D. scholars. He is also an Emeritus and Adjunct Professor at leading universities.

Previously, he was honored with the Jain Ratna Award by former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, followed by prestigious accolades such as Jain Vibhushan, Hemchandracharya Award (UK), and the Ahimsa Award 2022 at the House of Commons (UK) in the presence of the members of both the house of Parliament, interfaith and leading members of Jain and Indian communities. Dr. Kumarpal Desai, awarded the JAINA Global Award 2025 for their outstanding contributions in promoting Jain values globally.
