About L D Museum
L D Museum, a part of the L D Institute of Indology Ahmedabad, holds a rich collection spanning 2000 years of Indian art history. It exhibits a wide range of sculptures, bronzes, manuscript paintings, miniature paintings and drawings, wood carvings, ancient and contemporary coins, textiles, and bead work pieces. Today it stands amongst the most significant museums in Gujarat, promoting scholarship, preserving heritage, and engaging visitors, inculcating an appreciation for the extraordinary art and culture of our country.
Role Overview
The Collections Manager will be responsible for the care, documentation, and management of the museum’s collections. The role involves working closely with the education, conservation, and administrative teams to ensure the proper care and management of all objects.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update collections databases and records with consistency and accuracy.
- Coordinate collection acquisitions and loan processes.
- Support exhibition planning, installation, and deinstallation.
- Monitor environmental conditions, implement preventive conservation measures.
- Supervise the handling and movement of collections within and outside the museum, within storage areas maintaining collection management standards.
- Research on collections, facilitate access to collections for scholars and visitors.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in Art History, Museology, Conservation, Archives, or Archival and Heritage Management or other related fields.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in collections management, post qualification, preferably in a museum or cultural institution.
- Strong knowledge of collections care, documentation standards, and preventive conservation practices, research skills.
- Proficiency in digital documentation tools.
- Strong working proficiency in English, effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-driven, dynamic, independent in planning and execution when needed.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment.
