The Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum continues its special series of Talks on Art, History, Literature, and Heritage as part of the winter academic programme, 2022,

Join us for the talk on Rashtriya Shayar, Shri Jhaverchand Meghani to be delivered by Prof. Parul Shah on Saturday, 26 November, 2022 at 5:30 pm IST, at the lecture hall of LD Museum. Prof. Parul will be speaking on various aspects of the life and works of Shri Meghani through words, poetry, songs and dance.

The lecture will be conducted in Gujarati and interspersed with English. Non-Gujarati speaking audience would get a wonderful insight to the most loved poet, story teller and journalist of Gujarat.

About Jhaverchand Meghani

Jhaverchand Meghani (1896-1947) immensely popular multifaceted Gujarati writer-poet-journalist who in a short literary career of 25 years wrote more than 90 books of poetry, novels, short stories, and biographies. He is best known for his wide exploration of the previously undocumented folk literature of Saurashtra. His extensive research produced collections of folk songs, folk stories and scholarly treatises on all facets of folk literature. This won him the first ever award of the Ranjitram Swarnachandrak, the highest literary award in Gujarat. Meghani’s patriotic songs gave great impetus to India’s freedom struggle, and Gandhiji bestowed on him the title of Rastriya Shayar.

About the speaker

Prof. Parul Shah is a rare combination of a Performing Artist, Cross-cultural Choreographer, Bharatanatyam Guru, Dance Educator, Scholar, Researcher, Arts Administrator and highly a motivated human being. Her illustrious career in Indian dance spans more than 50 years, being recipient of many awards and scholarships. Recipient of Gujarat Rajya Gaurav Puraskar, she heads her own Performing Arts Company called the Anjali Memorial Company since the past 40 years, they continue to perform all over the country. Notable dance productions: Rajyalaksmi, Buddha Tattva, Dipta Kailash, Kanya Viday, Two roads and a path, Abhishap, Chetana, Shri Chandramaulishwar Kuravanji, Shri Antaryami, Nirguna, Kavi-Kavita-Gujarat, Random Graces are few among the many creative items in solo and group formats.
