Poludas Nagendra Satish is a textile designer, printmaker, and educator with over two decades of experience working at the intersection of handloom, material knowledge, and rural livelihoods. A graduate of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, he has worked extensively with organizations such as Malkha, Khamir, Sutradhar, and the Crafts Councils of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, engaging deeply with craft communities across India.
Satish’s work is rooted in a long-term engagement with desi cotton—indigenous varieties that are inherently resilient, diverse, and closely tied to India’s ecological and cultural landscapes. Over the past several years, he has been exploring decentralized, small-scale spinning systems using low-cost, locally adaptable tools, enabling artisans to work with short and medium staple fibres that are often neglected by industrial systems. His practice challenges conventional notions of efficiency and standardization, instead foregrounding adaptability, material sensitivity, and human skill.
Through his initiative, Kora Design Collaborative, Satish works closely with farmers, spinners, dyers, and weavers to build regenerative textile ecosystems. His approach to regenerative cotton goes beyond cultivation—it integrates soil health, biodiversity, decentralized processing, and equitable livelihoods. He advocates for rethinking textiles not as industrial outputs, but as evolving knowledge systems shaped by land, labour, and local context.
As a mentor and educator, he brings a rare combination of technical insight, design thinking, and empathy for craft practitioners. His work continues to inspire new possibilities for sustainable textile futures rooted in indigenous knowledge and collective practice.
